Universal Picture Films will be adapting the Square Enix and Avalanche Studios video game franchise Just Cause, with Aaron Rabin joining the board to write for the upcoming film.
Known for his writing work in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Aaron Rabin will be writing for the upcoming Just Cause film being adapted by Universal Pictures. It is unknown when the film based on the Square Enix and Avalanche Studios video game franchise will be released, but we do have some idea of the many people who will be directing and producing the film.
Joining Aaron Rabin (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) as he writes for the Just Cause film, The Wrap has shared that Ángel Manuel Soto, known for directing The Farm and Blue Beetle, will direct the upcoming project. Not to mention, Kelly McCormick and David Leitch (The Fall Guy and Bullet Train) will be producing through 87North Productions, and the team behind the Sonic the Hedgehog films, Story Kitchen, will also be producing with Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Dan Jevons as an executive producer.
Just Cause was first released in 2006 by Square Enix (Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts franchise) and developed by Avalanche Studios. Stepping foot into San Esperito to dethrone the corrupted government, you take on the role of Rico Rodriguez, a Latin field operative backed by the US government agency. Embarking on your mission to take down the corrupted governments as they wield weapons of mass destruction, you can do as you please, whether you like to approach each mission being chaotic or strategic or just explore the 250k acre of the island. Not to mention, you can perform many stunts in the game, such as jumping from vehicle to vehicle, skydiving, or parasailing.
With how successful the Just Cause franchise is, as it released four games from 2006 to 2018 and upped the antics, it will be interesting to see how the film will turn out in the end. Hopefully, with the teams behind many successful action and video game movies, they can make something spectacular with the film.
With the project still being early in development as the information about the upcoming Just Cause film is scarce, hopefully, we can learn about the cast and expected release date soon.
