Every great video game over the years has stuck to the tried and true formula of being easy to pick up and play, but difficult to fully master… and Mario Kart exemplifies this as a title that is arguably the most popular racing series of all time. Sure, it starts out incredibly simple with basic acceleration and turning, but the depth of the experience isn’t fully revealed until we begin to learn how to drift around corners, perfectly time our boosts, and strategically utilize the items around the course. It’s accessible enough that we can win a race on our very first try, but it slowly reveals its full challenge as we move up from those 50cc races to the 200cc battles.
Just as Mario Kart is easy to start but takes dedication to master, our relationship with the Lord isn’t something we possess in its fullness in one moment of conversion… we must continue to grow and cultivate it through intentional study and prayer every day. The larger challenges we face in life will require us to dig deeper, seeking the guidance and wisdom that’s only revealed to those followers who are fully committed to a lifelong pursuit of Him. His grace is freely given but growing in His grace isn’t automatic, so let’s spend some time with Him learning how to pull off a power slide before the next lap begins.
