Alright, be the stans of Zelda! Keep your hats on. Nintendo has just unleashed a bombshell on the unsuspecting masses. The cosmetics have to be super for Nintendo Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, set for release on June 5. You heard it well: the same essence, buttoned up in high fashion for the next-gen Switch. And the accolades! They are intense, intensified from those that had an early-bird perspective on the best versions in existence.
So, what elevates these new editions from the old? Well, Nintendo has given very little in detail, but the offered goods imply they are not just lazy ports. Enhanced graphics and UI performance, with additional perks, probably.
The impressive power boost of the Switch 2 must render Hyrule hyper clear-the sunsets in Breath of the Wild get even more detail, or floating islands in Tears of the Kingdom show up with zero frame drops. Now that is an upgrade.
What really unfolds the t-fold is what the lucky few weary fans have to say after actually playing it. Social media is abuzz with impressions, with the majority shaping towards the conclusion that Nintendo did not just promote the games. It elevated them.
One player described exploring Hyrule under this Switch 2 port of Breath of the Wild as “like seeing it for the first time all over again.” Others commented that physics-heavy gameplay of Tears of the Kingdom is presently “buttery smooth.” Come now: if anything Zelda fans love, it’s to gush about graphics.
And here’s the kicker: some of the comments have been tinged with bitterness. The reason? Well, if you’d already bought the game on the original Switch, you’d probably have to buy the full-price version again. Nintendo has yet to say if owners of the original Switch versions will be able to nab a discount. So this is sure to leave a bad taste with many; but guess what? No matter what, die-hard fans will probably wanna re-buy just for the Hyrule.
What now? Less than a month away, and you can expect its hype train will just get louder. Something new? Could be. Maybe exclusive Ajiibo? No one really knows yet, but Nintendo always likes surprises. Till then, the only thing left to do is drool over those gorgeous screenshots and pray my wallet survives daylight.
And hey, if for any reason, you’ve never experienced Breath of the Wild or Tears of Kingdom, this uber-hyped occasion would be just the right reason to jump on it. Just, umm… maybe don’t tell your bank account it was ever our idea.
So go ahead and scribble those dates on your calender, set reminders, and make yourself ready to return to Hyrule at least one more time. I mean, when has Nintendo EVER let along with Zelda? (Don’t answer that.)
