Bethesda had a thankful tweet dumping gratitude toward gamers that have undergone their broad fantasy universes. From rescuing Kvatch and being the Gray Fox, the studio thanked the millions of people who have created their own legends within Tamriel. While the air was thick with nostalgia, a burning question was streaming down the replies box: Where is The Elder Scrolls VI?
This official tweet from Bethesda was kind of a love letter toward the community, especially to those who have played Oblivion, Skyrim, and other chapters of the Elder Scrolls saga. It really stirred many emotional moments, recalling journeys from becoming Arch-Mage to joining the Thieves Guild. But the gamers weren’t there just to reminisce. The replies were partly thank-yous mixed with demands and impatient comments.
Early to be answered was Marcos Americus: “Thank you for building them. Please don’t forget about us. #TESVI.” In such a way, their appeal went on and on in many others. AxelOtero1 simply pleaded, “Pls release something about Elder Scrolls VI,” while Aizenhym gave out in full caps: “NOW FOCUS ON MAKING TES VI A HANDCRAFTED GAME AND NOT A PROCEDURAL GENERATION BORING MESS.” Oof. Someone had surely been burned by Starfield‘s mixed reception.
But there was a little bit of reflection in that ocean of requests. Alex Walason said the Oblivion remaster carried him through ear surgery as its “comforting release.” TeslaDarth regarded that game as “changed gaming history” for them. Then came those killing the mood with the meme: “Looking forward to Fallout 5 releasing in 2077” by Jewish Elmo. Brutality.
And then came the next… Uhm… weird one. This user vamp21 showed fleshly underbelly with a cryptic psychoanalytical screed about “type 1/2 heroes” and walking in circles based on the square root of one’s age. Nah, we don’t get it either. But hey, nothing if not passionate.
If there was any shouting from the world, the faithful Bethesda umbrellas answered their call for remakes and remasters. TR4NCE26 gave a solemn bubbly toast to the inevitable Morrowind remake, while ErsintheNorth demanded Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters. ProfDrArak mockingly proposed the same New Vegas remake-right on!
The real elephant in the room came up in the conversation of Game Pass numbers. FangtasiaT continues to be skeptical as “compared” Bethesda player counts to “massaged Government unemployment stats.” “Game Pass does not count as true numbers,” was their declaration. Meanwhile, DivineLibertas outright went and asked for sales numbers, hinting at the on-going argument on whether or not Game Pass success equates to curb-side profits.
What next? Bethesda’s tweet was a good moment, but the players made it clear that they’re up for much more than nostalgia. Given Starfield‘s rocky launch still fresh, the pressure for TES VI to deliver is huge. If the replies speak for anything, the fans will accept nothing less than a masterpiece.
For the moment, however, the studio expressed a simple message: Thanks for the adventure. But the gamers? They’re already onto the hunt for the next one.
