Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost Fashion Contest Sparks Wild Community Creations

Bungie has thrown open the gate for the Festival of the Lost fashion contest in Destiny 2, and not too long after the start of the contest, the Guardians began to flaunt their bizarre costume creations on social media. The annual Halloween extravaganza returns this year with two competitions – one for the in-game costumes captured through the hashtag #FotLFashion2025 and the other for the real-life Destiny-themed crafts using the hashtag #FotLCreation2025. Winning players will get the unique A Crimson Cathedral emblem and the community’s reaction… well, let us just say it goes from incredible to totally insane.

So, what exactly does Bungie want? The players can choose to submit pictures or videos of Guardians in the most magnificent Festival of the Lost outfits, the said outfits that are going to last for the entire Festival. You can feature three Guardians in a photo and seven in a video, which indicates we are already getting to see some really creative group shots. As for the physical part of the creation, it can go as high as carved or painted pumpkins, made masks, or even full costumes inspired by the game Destiny. All the entries must have your Bungie Name (with numbers) and use the specific hashtags on Bluesky, Twitter, or Instagram.

The community responded quickly, and it was very fun to watch. A gamer called Hector Salinas has reported and provided several submissions showing his Guardian as different characters, one submission even called “Cayde is back”, and the caption has long been the crying nostalgia for the Destiny players. Another player under the name Kamen S0ul DJ has shared one that looks like a character lost from DELTARUNE into the Dreaming City that is nobody’s request but now everybody’s need.

Not everyone is on board with the festival. Players are having some technical problems, and one of them, Ryan00043, said he is being “booted like 5 times mid-game from the new event.” On the other hand, Jacob is so fed up with Trials matchmaking that he is saying it “feels like utter dogshit anymore” and is describing opponents as “3 guys flinging around with drangs and forgiveness while my team is 200 power and clueless.” Ouch!

In the case of fashion submissions, the number of creative ideas is just astonishing to…well, let’s not keep talking and just look at some highlights. Matty Ice shared what they termed as a “Cursed thrall look” which in truth is still very creepy in a good Destiny way. Another player, _The_Latte_, shared a picture of their Guardian standing next to Ada-1 and the caption was “I thought I would drop by, say hi, and share some new armor sets with my friend Ada-1.” Honestly, that is the wholesome content we need, isn’t it?

However, the Autistic Goblin sums up by saying “I like my warlock outfits👁👁” with a fire emoji that’s the perfect vibe to capture. At the same time, Dot Dot Dot uploaded a photo of their festival mask and wrote “I have my own festival mask, thank you so much” – thus showing that one does not have to wear the official gear from Bungie to be in the spirit.

The feedback, however, is not all positive. Justin Locker shared his… unequivocal opinions, “Destiny came out from being a dark game for men of 20+ to one where you put on masks that 6-year-olds would love to watch on tv. Yeah, quitting 100% was indeed the right thing to do. Not a single regret. The game has turned gaayy” which, um ok? On the contrary, Chad enquired why “the Festival of the Lost is not free for everyone” on such consoles like PS4, thus bringing forth a genuine concern about accessibility.

The creativity that one can see is nothing less than amazing. One Guardian actually succeeded to create a copy of Failsafe from the Exodus Black and added the comment “Yeah… I am Failsafe… Hello captain” which is just the perfect match. Another player designed what they called “The Mask” and it resembles something out of a horror film. Then there is also a player who turned in “Lodi cupido with chicken and alone :(” which could be either a translation blunder or simply the most relatable Guardian mood ever.

Bungie has plans to showcase its favorite submissions during the Festival of the Lost on its social media channels and also in the weekly TWID (This Week In Destiny) updates. Additionally, they are giving away the A Crimson Cathedral emblem to the winners which is quite cool – exclusive emblems are always a big deal in the Destiny community and this one seems quite appropriately spooky for Halloween.

What is more, some gamers have already voiced their concerns regarding visibility. NightshifteR was among those who remarked that “I just submitted my 3, hopefully, they will be noticed :/” which is precisely that typical creator anxiety that we go through every time we share our work with the world. Meanwhile, Eng. Thiago Silva was primarily worried about the emblems from previous events that he might have overlooked, thus asking “Bungie where is the Twitch emblem in The Lost Event and the RAID contest????? So far it hasn’t been delivered to the players’ accounts” – a reminder that sometimes the distribution of emblems can be a bit of a hassle.

The competition will last through the Festival of the Lost event allowing plenty of opportunities for Guardians to submit their entries. If you are going for spooky, creative or just plain weird, then Bungie is definitely indicating that players should have fun with it. And going by the initial submissions, the Destiny community is surely exhibiting its vibrancy this year. From cursed thralls to DELTARUNE crossovers and really well-dressed Warlocks, it has proven again how imaginative and artistic this player community can be when the opportunity is given. If only the servers would stop throwing people out during the actual event activities…
