One of the tougher key and chest combinations in Avowed
If you’ve explored the Shatterscarp region in Avowed, then you might have come across a locked chest called the “Survivalist Chest.” This is located near the Ancient Lakebed and it’s near some refugees sitting around a camp. Naturally, the only way you can open the chest is with the Survivalist Key, which might just be the most difficult key to find in the entirety of Avowed.
If the Survivalist Chest has been itching at you, then you’ve come to the right place. It certainly took some time, but I figured out how to find the Survivalist Key and open its chest, so let me show how you can do it too.
Survivalist Key location in Avowed
Unfortunately, the Survivalist Key requires a bit of work for you to obtain. It’s not located on a body or in a random container in Shatterscarp, but instead, you have to find a note that is extremely important to the refugees guarding the Survivalist Chest.
The note you’re looking for is called “Hylak’s Note,” and if you already have the note in your inventory, which you can check by going to the Books section, then you can head straight to the Survivalist Chest. However, if you’re like me, then you have no earthly idea where to find this note. Fortunately, it’s not too far from the Survivalist Chest. All you have to do is walk a little east to this location on the map:
Here, you’ll find a dead, bloody body lying in the middle of the road. This body belongs to Hylak, and on the body you’ll find Hylak’s Note.
If the note isn’t there for you, some players have reported that you need to complete the nearby quest called “That Which Remains.” This quest involves going down into a well to explore some mysterious ruins and an abandoned research lab. If you complete the quest, come back to Hylak’s body and see if the note is there.
How to open the Survivalist Chest in Avowed
When you pick up Hylak’s Note, return to the location of the Survivalist Chest, which you can see on the map below in case you forgot.
There, speak to the man overlooking the valley by the fire. You’ll be able to show him Hylak’s Note and he’ll simply give you the Survivalist Key, which is added to your inventory.
You can now head over to the Survivalist Chest, use the key, and open it up. Inside, you’ll find the Climber’s Crampons unique boots, which give you 30% extra parkour speed and -10% damage to elemental damage.
