As the cycle for EA FC 25 has gone on, many of its most talented players have discovered new tactics to take into Ultimate Team, the title’s most competitive and popular game mode. Of course, players are always encouraged to find their own way when it comes to tactics and tailor everything to their liking. But it doesn’t hurt to take a look around and see what the best players have been having success with.
An old Ultimate Team classic, the 4-1-2-1-2 has always been a sneaky good tactical setup for players who wish to shore up the middle of the park. Though not as widely used as the 4-2-3-1 and other formations that encourage wingplay, the 4-1-2-1-2 is incredibly effective so long as you can properly sort out roles for your central midfielders and fullbacks. But what’s the best approach for this?
Using Manu of Team Gullit’s suggestions, here is a meta tactic for the 4-1-2-1-2 formation in EA FC 25 Ultimate Team.
Meta 41212 Tactics In EA FC 25
Tactical Setup
First things first, let’s tackle the base tactics for the 4-1-2-1-2. For one, we’re using the narrow variant of the 4-1-2-1-2 formation. When selecting a formation, choose the one that says 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow. This keeps a solid shape with two central midfielders behind the CAM, and provides a bit more stability than the variation with wide midfielders.
Now, onto the settings:
- Build-Up Style: Balanced
- Defensive Approach: High
- Line Height: 70
As expected, it’s best to set up your tactics using the Balanced build-up style. Keeping a high line in defense is also the meta, so a line height of 70 should do. This will put pressure on the opposing attack and make it difficult for your opponent to effectively time runs in behind.

How Does This Tactic Work?
Because the 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow doesn’t have any traditional winger roles, it’s up to the fullbacks to provide its width. To serve this purpose, Team Gullit’s Manu has both full backs in the Attacking Wingback role with their focus being Attack.
The defensive midfielder is meant to hold both in possession and out of it, while one central midfielder is on Playmaker/Attack and another on Box-to-Box/Balanced. The idea is to push both fullbacks up, have the DM hold, the right central midfielder roam freely, and the left central midfielder join the CAM in attack. If you’re keeping notes, this means that when in the attacking phase of play, you are attacking with 6 players whilst the RCM plays behind the attack, and the DM essentially joins the center backs to form a three-back.
To put it more simply, it’s designed to create a plethora of options in the attack and overwhelm opponents in the attacking third, whilst still maintaining enough cover behind the play to prevent a counter-attack.
