Black Ops 6 dataminers uncover wall running, potentially a feature for CoD 2025

Black Ops 6 already gives Call of Duty fans some pretty versatile and dynamic movement options thanks to its Omnimovement system – a far cry from the more grounded and static games of recent years. However, we may soon see CoD creep even further towards the advanced movement mechanics we saw in some of its more futuristic titles from the 2010s. Dataminers have tunneled deep into Black Ops 6 and have found that wall running is hiding in the game – and it could potentially be in preparation for CoD 2025.

Now, we don’t officially know the identity of this year’s new Call of Duty game, but all the signs (and leaks) are pointing towards it being a sequel to 2012’s Black Ops 2. One of my favorite FPS games of all time, Black Ops 2 flitted narratively between the 1980s and a then-futuristic setting off (drumroll please) 2025. Wouldn’t it be fitting to see the aftermath of the events of that game arrive in that very same year? Well, that’s what the leakers are saying is going to happen. While BO2 didn’t have any wild movement mechanics and was firmly boots-on-the-ground, its successor Black Ops 3 (set around 40 years later in the 2060s) did – specifically, it had wall running, which is exactly what has been uncovered in this Black Ops 6 datamine. If this rumored BO2 sequel is set at some point between BO2’s 2025 and BO3’s more distant future, there’s potential for such a feature to arrive without the need for too much narrative retconning.

One of those widely loved mechanics that the likes of Mirror’s Edge and Titanfall have championed over the years, it was also a brilliant addition (in my view) to Black Ops 3 back in the day, and something I’d love to see make its way into the next CoD.

Footage of it working in Black Ops 6, shared by ‘viipeter,’ shows a player wall running across various surfaces in the Scud multiplayer map.

Many months back, notable CoD leaker ‘TheGhostOfHope’ alleged that this year’s new game would feature a “more realistic” version of wall-running versus what we had in Black Ops 3. In BO3, you could cover a pretty long distance while wall running and boost-jump between different surfaces to continue your traversal. In this version found in Black Ops 6, things still look pretty dynamic, but the arc of your wall run does seem to be a bit shorter and, with there being no boost-jumps, closer to the ground. So it lines up with the leaker’s previous claim.

Exactly how this will be implemented (and, more importantly, if it’ll be implemented at all) in the next CoD is of course not officially known, so don’t take this as 100% confirmation of wall running. But it lines up with past leaks and could be a plausible addition to the existing Omnimovement system given its rumored setting. There is a chance that this is just a leftover asset from CoDs gone by that has only just been discovered, or it was added for some kind of experimental limited-time mode in Black Ops 6’s future. We just don’t know for sure yet. But answers should come in the next couple of months.

This year’s new Call of Duty should be revealed at some point in the summer, but in your more immediate future is the Black Ops 6 Season 4 release date, which arrives next week. Alternatively, while you wait, here are some other excellent multiplayer games we recommend.
