Heroes of Might and Magic II open source game engine fheroes2 version 1.1.9 released

Dear fans and players of the fheroes2 project! One more month has passed, and the team has delivered a new version of the fheroes2 engine – 1.1.9! This version contains some very interesting additions which we are happy to share.

This release brings the ability for map makers to set the ownership of many objects such as Mines, Lighthouses, Sawmills, and Alchemist Labs. This feature isn’t present in the original game but, without breaking any gameplay, it gives a lot of flexibility to create much more engaging maps.

The team improved spell animations and adjusted the Scouting area to match the original game. Many rendering issues in battles and on the Adventure Map were also fixed for a better gameplay experience.

We also spent time improving the overall performance of the engine. All animations have become slightly more stable (mostly invisible to the human eye), we significantly reduced the computations during text rendering for multiple languages, and sped up some operations in the Editor. Such changes are especially noticeable on lower-end devices, which we aim to support as long as possible.

The Editor was released more than a year ago, and many players have created various maps for the fheroes2 engine. Starting from this release, we will continuously include more and more maps in the fheroes2 bundle. This release adds 2 new maps: 7 Deserts and Eruption.

As a bonus for the players, we added 2 brand-new objects to the game: the Barrel and the Black Cat! Yes, you read it correctly — the Black Cat, which is an interactive action object, along with the Barrel. We think you should be the one to interact with these objects to find out what they do.

Additionally, the team updated several translations, improved the AI behavior including search for the Ultimate Artifact, and closed more than 30 issues since the last release.

Thank you for your support, and we hope you enjoy the game!
