With all the excitement brewing around Marvel Rivals, NetEase is making the most of it by announcing another leg of the Marvel Rivals Championship. Accordingly, in this article, we’re taking a look at the next season and giving our take on the budding new title in the world of esports.
Marvel Rivals Championship – Grassroots Continued
Up to a few months ago, the community was preoccupied with the reveal of Valve’s new title Deadlock. However, Valve hasn’t really capitalized on the excitement, only offering small $1,000 open tournaments across two regions called ‘Deadlock Fight Night’.
Meanwhile, NetEase is taking a bolder approach to building its competitive scene.
To begin with, Season 0 of the Marvel Rivals Championship featured the following stakes which featured in some esports betting sites:
- Three regions of competition (North America, Europe & Asia)
- Multiple platforms (PC & Console)
- Prize pools of $14,500
- Open qualifiers featuring up to 512 teams
Here’s a look at the main changes for the Marvel Rivals Championship for Season 1: Eternal Night Falls:
- Seven regions: China PC, North America PC, North America Console, Europe PC, Europe Console, Asia PC and Asia Console
- No change in prize pools ($14,500) and format (Open Qualifier, Closed Qualifiers & Double Elimination)
All regions (NA, EU, Asia & China) take place with the three stages of competition between 8th March and 6th April.
With prizes on the line, here’s how the prize pool is spread between competitors according to NetEase:
- Champion: $6,000
- Runner-up: $3,000
- Third Place: $1,500
- Fourth Place: $800
- No. 5-8: $400 Per Faction
- No. 9-16: $200 Per Faction
Early Days – Quantity over Quality
We’re a fan of NetEase’ approach for Marvel Rivals, both for the game and the esports scene – which is to throw as much effort at it as possible.
While the community has asked the publisher to slow down with the number of characters, the amount of content being thrown at the title is fantastic.
Now, for the esport, if Marvel Rivals wants any chance to succeed it needs more grassroots tournaments to build the community – quantity over quality. Yet, it also helps that there is a decent amount of prize on the line too.
We’re hopeful for the future of Marvel Rivals esports as we were back in December.
