NFL Week 3 Picks Against the Spread

The NFL season is here. Picking NFL games straight up is hard enough, but picking against the spread is even tougher. Here are NFL week 3 picks against the spread. (Spreads are from Tallysight as of Tuesday morning)

Last Week: 9-7

Season: 18-14

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills (-11.5)

On paper, the Dolphins should be able to keep it within the spread. But the offense hasn’t played up to their expectations this season. Buffalo had a great comeback against the Ravens, then took care of the Jets. On a short week, they can get the job done.

Pick: Bills

Sunday Afternoon

Atlanta Falcons (-4.5) at Carolina Panthers

Carolina was able to come back late against the Cardinals to cover the spread in week 2 after an awful week 1 against the Jaguars. Atlanta has seen improvements on their defense after adding several young players, so they should be able to win by at least a touchdown.

Pick: Falcons

Cincinnati Bengals at Minnesota Vikings (-3)

Both teams will be sporting a backup quarterback in this game. Jake Browning is familiar in the Bengals’ offense and has better weapons to utilize. Carson Wentz could struggle against a Bengals’ defense that has been opportunistic, even if they haven’t been great this year.

Pick: Bengals

Green Bay Packers (-7.5) at Cleveland Browns

The Browns are facing an uphill battle in this one. Their rookies are playing well, but they just don’t have the talent to compete with the best of the best. Green Bay’s defense should have an excellent game to help the team cover.

Pick: Packers

Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars (-1.5)

Whether it is Trevor Lawrence’s interceptions, Brian Thomas’s inability to go over the middle or Liam Coen’s frustration on the sideline, the vibes in Jacksonville seem off. Houston is on a short week with a questionable offensive line, but their defense should make it hard for Lawrence.

Pick: Texans

Indianapolis Colts (-3.5) at Tennessee Titans

Cam Ward has shown flashes for the Titans, but not on a consistent basis. The offense hasn’t always been on the same page and the Colts’ defense will be tough to crack. Daniel Jones has played well and is being used in a way he can succeed.

Pick: Colts

Las Vegas Raiders at Washington Commanders (-3.5)

The Raiders have struggled to get the offense going on the ground and it has been inconsistent overall. Washington may have to gameplan around Jayden Daniels’ knee injury, but they should have enough firepower to win and cover.

Pick: Commanders

Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles (-3.5)

Two of the teams with great expectations are meeting in this one. It should be a close game with both defenses having the ability to play well. Philadelphia may win the game, but it could be close. The Rams’ defense can make things hard on the Eagles’ offense and cover the spread.

Pick: Rams

New York Jets at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-4.5)

The Jets faltered after playing well in week 1, even in a loss. Tampa Bay is on a short week, but they should be able to protect their home turf. New York is dealing with Justin Fields being in concussion protocol, but he didn’t play well early in the game against the Bills, giving the Bucs more of an opportunity to cover.

Pick: Buccaneers

Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5) at New England Patriots

The Steelers are making a lot of fundamental mistakes right now. While the Patriots haven’t played their best football this season, Drake Maye should be able to protect their home turf for the win.

Pick: Patriots

Sunday Evening

Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers (-2.5)

While the Chargers will be on a short week, they have looked great this season. The Broncos’ offense has been inconsistent and Bo Nix has been making mistakes. The Chargers should be able to win and cover at home.

Pick: Chargers

New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks (-7)

Seattle’s offense has their issues, but their defense is great. The Saints will struggle to move the ball on the road and the Seahawks can cover.

Pick: Seahawks

Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers (-1.5)

Arizona hasn’t played the toughest competition in the first two games of the season and they haven’t looked especially proficient. Even with Mac Jones, the 49ers should be able to win a game at home.

Pick: 49ers

Dallas Cowboys at Chicago Bears (-1.5)

Both these teams have struggled out of the gate, although the Cowboys do have a win. The Cowboys’ offense at least can score some points, while the Bears are struggling to consistently move the ball.

Pick: Cowboys

Kansas City Chiefs (-5.5) at New York Giants

The Chiefs are desperate for a win and should be able to cover on the road against the Giants. Their defense can cause problems for Russell Wilson.

Pick: Chiefs

Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens (-4.5)

Baltimore did lose week 1 against the Bills, but got back on the right track in week 2. Detroit had a get-right game against the Bears, but may have more issues with the Ravens on the road.

Pick: Ravens
