Nintendo Switch Online 2021 Predictions – TWOTALL4UFOOL’s Gaming & More

Blogging live to you and yours! It’s your boy TWOTALL4UFOOL! So the Nintendo Switch is almost four years old. The first party games are fantastic, and the hybrid console itself is fantastic. Much better than its previous console the Wii U. But the online service is maybe a step above bare bones. It’s better than nothing but compared to Xbox Live and PS Plus let’s face it the service can use some work. It is the cheapest of the three services so you get what you pay for (I guess). But it’s 2021 a new year and the Switch Online Service will probably have some updates. So for this post I want to talk about the state of the service and 2021 predictions for the Switch Online Service.

Now since the service first premiered in the fall of 2018 to now, I will say that it has gotten better. Not to the point where I and many others would like to see, but it has made improvements. They are very specific on what games you need the service for if you want to play online. Those games include Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and more. They also have their own theme battle royale games. Those are Tetris 99, and as of right now Super Mario Bros. 35 (hopefully that game stays permanently). They have very affordable membership prices. If you are interested in checking it out here’s a link.

Now for 2021 there’s a few things I would like to see done particularly with the retro options they offer. Let’s talk about the ones they already have. NES and SNES games.

Now for both NES and SNES online I think it’s awesome how you can play 2P games online. If you feel like losing at Dr. Mario hit me up! LOL! But seriously that is a game changer when playing retro games. You don’t get that with a whole lot of the mini retro consoles out on the market these days. There is PC emulators but setting it up can be a pain for some people. So 2P online gaming that is an excellent feature. However, I don’t like the fact that they drop games just randomly now. It was a few every month when it was just the NES but when they added the SNES that all of a sudden changed. But I can’t get mad at the game selection. However I do have a short list of games I would like them to add here’s what I am predicting for 2021.

NES Wishlist: Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword Of Chaos, Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship Of Doom, Battletoads

SNES Wishlist: Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars, Yoshi’s Cookie, Tetris & Dr. Mario, Chrono Trigger

For NES games I know Battletoads ain’t happening unless they come to a deal with Microsoft. But as for the two Ninja Gaiden Sequels I don’t see why not. As for the SNES games I’m surprised Super Mario RPG hasn’t made it on there yet. Yoshi’s Cookie is a very underrated puzzle game. They have an NES version of that game as well. And they had a compilation of Tetris & Dr. Mario on the SNES. But with Tetris 99 a hit and Dr. Mario already on the NES games I think that is very unlikely. Chrono Trigger would make another great addition to the service but I’m sure they would have to come to an agreement with Square Enix. Never say never cause it may just happen.

Other predictions:

I think the whole family of Game Boy makes its way to Switch Online. That includes Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games all on Switch. I’m pretty convinced that we’re not getting Nintendo 64 this year but you never know. I would also like to see Virtual Console come back in some form for GameCube and perhaps a few select Wii titles. You can use the GameCube controller on the Switch so why not add some GameCube titles to the eShop. Just another missed opportunity for Nintendo if you ask me. SMH!

I do have a fear that they may start taking games off the service which would totally suck. Maybe we don’t see that this year or next year but I think later on down the line when Nintendo introduces it’s next console you’ll see them take away games from the service. I hope this isn’t the case but I think it’s something to watch out for later on down the line.

One other feature I would like to see the Nintendo Switch Online improve on is the voice chat. I still think it is silly that you need to use another device to talk to your friends online. If you are going to have gamers do that may as well just use something else (like Discord). Can we please have the ability to make party chat rooms like we can on the PS4, and PS5? And can we please get rid of friend codes? It’s 2021 Nintendo. Once again SMH!

So overall despite my gripes and complaints about the Switch Online Service I’m still paying for it and I think it is priced very fairly. I think we as consumers are getting what we pay for when it comes to the Switch Online Service. But if Nintendo dares raise the price they better start giving us more features for it.
