Onimusha: Way of the Sword – New Details & Fan Reactions

Capcom just recently dropped all fresh new information regarding Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and fans are well divided. Lifetime is shaping up into a near 20-hour ride, which will encompass puzzles and a stage-based progression-no open world for you.

Oh, and before you might dare think about it, no-you don’t have to have played the old games to jump right in. Whether that’s good or bad is a matter of opinion.

Firstly, about definitions. Way of the Sword is that-way linear, stage-by-stage. Some fans are really fine with it – after all, not every other game has to reach Elden Ring proportions at all. The other lot? Nah.

One such user, @doodooddooddood, went ahead to say that they ‘hate’ stages and would rather have a story like the old Onimusha games or Silent Hill 2 Remake. Pfft, you can’t please everyone.

Then there is the whole no connect with past games. Some are angry about it. @TC_Topcat3098 called it silly, and @Ellis29641731 grieved, “We’ll never know what happened to Samanosuke. 😔”. Ddouble ouch. But maybe Capcom is actually trying to lessen the entry barrier for fresh blood so they can get in without getting lost in the lore.

But still, some fans swear they saw references to the previous games in the trailer. @swiftjay91 fought back against someone saying there are zero connections by referencing a boss in the first game. So… is Capcom just putting on the coy card, or is it a full-blown restart? Who knows.

Lengthwise, now. 20 hours in playthroughs, hmm? Pretty neat. @BKWscar, however, is not buying it, and is suggesting it’s more for the 100+ hours completionists, say DMC and Ninja Gaiden. @KingofObliviion, however, is just glad it won’t be another bloated open-world effort, saying they’d “rather take 20 hours of pure story and great gameplay vs 100 hours of roaming around doing repeating quests.” Fair.

And then there’s that guy. @RenTheLast insisted that the game be open-world and was ratio’d by replies like by @BareseLarr21112 retorting, “Not every game needs to be open world.” Preach.

It’s all the same though; hella hyped that there’s coming back for this franchise. @Mota2028Mota summed it quite all up: “Whatever they’re cooking, I’m interested.” Same.

Will Onimusha: Way of the Sword sustain that legacy? Time will tell. For the moment, Capcom surely has fans buzzing, and that cannot be a bad thing. Now, where’s my katana? 🔥
