On May 16th 2025, we celebrated the conclusion of the Pacific Phoenixes 2025 returnship program—a 10-week journey that transformed 25 professionals re-entering or pivoting into the data field into a thriving community of future data leaders.

Program Impact by the Numbers

  • 805,793 XP points accumulated on DataCamp
  • 960 total hours of dedicated learning
  • 5 participants completed the Data Analyst certification
  • 7/5 average satisfaction rating from participant feedback
  • 25 participants from across the United States

Comprehensive Learning Experience

Technical Foundation

Participants worked through DataCamp’s Data Analyst certification track, with five completing the full program and many others near completion. The platform provided structured learning in data manipulation, analysis, and visualization.

Expert-Led Professional Development

The program featured the following workshops:

Resume Workshop with Madeline Adams (TEKsystems): Focused on crafting standout technology resumes, debunking the “one-page resume” myth, and addressing career gaps effectively.

Business Analytics in Action with Dr. Naveen Gudigantala (University of Portland): Covered the evolution of analytics from traditional methods to AI, emphasizing proper problem definition before analysis.

Data Foundations Workshop with Dr. For Cheng (George Fox University, ex-Intel): Provided hands-on experience with Python, covering the complete data analysis workflow from collection to visualization.

Speed Mentoring Session led by Swaroopa Prabhakar: Connected participants with industry leaders through rotating small group discussions.

Data Analyst FAQs with Parul Pandey, Vinutha Hiremath and Swaroopa Prabhakar: Q&A session providing answers and guidance about DataCamp coursework, technical interview preparation, and staying current with the latest developments in data science.

Job Search Strategy Office Hours with Sonali Pagade: Shared real-world tactics including resume optimization for ATS systems and strategic interview techniques.

Industry Leadership Perspective

Meena Arunachalam, AMD Fellow and Women in Big Data Americas Regional Lead, closed the program with insights into the AI landscape. She highlighted AI as “the most transformational technology happening right in front of our eyes in over 50 years” and emphasized the importance of persistence, curiosity, and thinking beyond immediate job requirements when hiring.
