Remember the 90s? All the talking robots, the ghosts, and of course, who can forget all the alien archeology of the era? Well, if you don’t remember any of that, you can dive into that alternate reality with Elroy and the Aliens, an upcoming point-and-click adventure game about searching for your loved ones across the cosmos.

Elroy and the Aliens reminds one of LucasArts classics, in particular Day of the Tentacle, but the developers describe it as a game for both classic and modern audiences. Its 1993 setting is certainly a solid choice for that, given that the early 90s were certainly the heyday of point-and-click adventure games.
Rocket engineer Elroy’s father disappeared 18 years ago, but the discovery of a strange crystal and an accompanying message set Elroy on a cosmic quest to find his father. Assisting him in this item-combining odyssey is Peggie, an investigative reporter with a deep interest in languages and history.

Elroy’s adventure will involve quite the bit of sci-fi high jinks, tossing together mysteries, puzzles, alien languages, and even the paranormal. There’s a staggering sixty plus characters involved in the story, and of course, plenty of items to point and click at to solve environmental puzzles. The roughly 10-hour long adventure is fully voice acted and hand-drawn.
To keep the game accessible, subtitles, multiple input options, and captions for color-based puzzles. What’s more, the developers told us over an email interview that the game will feature a highlight-based hint system, so you can see which parts of the scene are interactable. This feature is disabled by default, though, as the developers would prefer you explore by yourself.

This humor-imbued adventure may be the debut title for Maribor, Slovenia-based studio Motiviti, but they’re hardly an inexperienced team. The dev team has previously worked on high-level client projects, backends and co-development efforts, all of which resulted in the studio being able to fund and publish Elroy and the Aliens all by itself.
The game’s initial dev team consisted of Tadej Gregorcic, who serves as director, writer, designer, and programmer; Jernej Kocjancic, producer and studio head; and Urban Breznik, art director, lead artist, and animator.

Discovering their love of adventure games together, the team soon added two more members from the same small town of Maribor – Martin Bezjak, audio director, composer, and producer; and Danilo Kapel, composer, music designer, and producer.
Further contributions came from lead programmer Tomi Goljevscek, and the UK-based Robert Megone, a QA specialist who has worked on modern adventure stalwarts like Return to Monkey Island, Darkside Detective, and Beyond a Steel Sky.

Motiviti’s quirky, humorous, yet emotional adventure game is now ready for deployment, and will be released on April 2nd, 2025, across PC, Mac, and Linux.
