Just this week, we got our first piece of news in a while concerning the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Nintendo officially let us know that the movie would be releasing on March 26th, 2027. This would indicate that the movie is gearing up for production, which of course means that the rumor mill is also getting going. Some new details have dropped today, and if they’re correct, we’ll be getting two more Zelda movies after the first drops.
The first part of this news comes from ProductionList.com, an organization that keeps track of various film and TV productions, sharing descriptions of them when available. Their web site was just updated with a new description for the Legend of Zelda movie, which reads as follows:
A live-action adaptation of the video game franchise. ‘The Legend of Zelda’ follows Link, a young warrior destined to protect the magical kingdom of Hyrule from the forces of darkness. The land is under threat from Ganon, a ruthless warlord who seeks the Triforce—an ancient relic said to grant limitless power. To stop him, Link must embark on a perilous journey, battling monstrous creatures, exploring treacherous dungeons, and solving intricate puzzles to uncover sacred artifacts that can aid him in his quest.
That description is fairly vague, and could apply to almost any Zelda plot ever produced, but if it’s accurate, it’s the most fleshed out description we’ve had of the movie so far. Additionally, the site indicates that the movie will be shooting in New Zealand between November 4th, 2025 and April 7th, 2026. This would make sense given its 2027 release date.
Following on this news is another tidbit that comes from Daniel Richtman, also known online as Daniel RPK. He’s been known to share various movie leaks and info in the past, and now he’s shared that a full Zelda trilogy is in the works. According to him, the roles of Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Impa and Zelda’s father have all been cast already, with the rest of the casting to be completed by August 2025. Apparently all the major actors have been contracted to be in three films over a period of six years. Richtman also mentions the shooting dates from this November to next April, which line up with Production List’s info.
Of course, none of this can be confirmed until Nintendo or the film’s producers come out and make an official statement. It’s also possible that these plans could change, or already changed prior to this info being made public. We’ll have to wait and see what happens! For now, all we can do is speculate as we wait a long two years for the first live-action Zelda movie to hit theaters.
