Favorites and Contenders – Teams To Look Out For

VCT Masters Toronto promises intense Valorant action, as the event will only feature the best teams in the world. Let’s take a look at the favorites and potential contenders:

Favorites at VCT Masters Toronto

4 teams stand out in Toronto as potential favorites to lift the trophy:

  • G2 Esports: North American powerhouse G2 Esports enter Toronto as a clear favorite – not only because they’re playing on home turf. They’ve been the most dominant squad in 2025, with no plans of slowing down.
  • Fnatic: Despite a weak start to the year, Fnatic look rejuvenated with a new lineup. The team has great vibes, and the individuals are shooting. With such experienced players on the team, Fnatic becomes a clear threat.
  • Team Heretics: Though Team Heretics must battle through the Swiss Stage, this European mix is always good for a deep run at international events. Though they haven’t been as sharp as they were last year, they still enter Toronto as a potential favorite.
  • Sentinels: The Sentinels have shown real grit, taking down G2 Esports during the regional tournament, even if they fell to them in the grand final rematch. This team is packed with players full of potential, and if they start strong, their momentum could just carry them all the way to a tournament win.

Contenders at VCT Masters Toronto

Several teams enter VCT Masters Toronto as potential contenders or dark horses:

  • Gen.G Esports: The South Korean giants have gone through a lineup crisis to start the 2025 season, but they’ve steadied the ship in Stage 1. With the experienced core of t3xture, Karon, and Munchkin, Gen.G remains a serious threat.
  • Team Liquid: Led by nAts, Team Liquid have been very competitive in the EMEA region, but are yet to prove themselves internationally. Still, the lineup has gotten more time to gel together, and we could see the best version of their team at Toronto.
  • MIBR: The Brazilian squad of MIBR haven’t been too impressive, but they have one of the best Valorant players in the world – aspas. With Verno as an addition to the firepower, MIBR does have the potential to deal some damage.
  • Rex Regum Qeon: Surprising fans around the world is RRQ, a group that pulled off massive upsets to win the Pacific league. Jemkin is playing some exceptional Valorant, but the squad’s inexperience at international events could lead to their demise.

Long Shots at VCT Masters Toronto

  • Paper Rex: Once a dominant force in Valorant, now grappling to reclaim their former glory. Despite having some of the biggest names in Valorant, Paper Rex has not been too inspiring, and unless they pull off some magic, it’s hard to believe they’ll dig deep.
  • XLG Esports: Despite getting a free ticket to the playoffs, XLG’s chances of winning the event aren’t very inspiring. One of the players on the team, YOU, was suspended from the main roster due to match-fixing allegations, meaning the team will compete with a stand-in.
  • Bilibili Gaming: Though we’ve seen Bilibili Gaming in several international events, the chances of them making a deep run at Toronto remain slim. They’ll have to make it out of the Swiss Stage before we even start a conversation.
  • Wolves Esports: The lowest-ranked team in the tournament, Wolves Esports, were truthfully lucky just to qualify. It’ll be a steep uphill battle if they want to make any noise in Toronto.

Who Will Win The Event?

Though it might sound like a boring answer, I have G2 Esports winning the entire event. They’ve been incredibly dominant recently, with all of their players shooting. While they did choke in the grand final of VCT Masters Bangkok, it’s unlikely we’ll see a repeat of that disappointment here.
